Q&A with Dave Johnson
Dave Johnson has supported the MEMIC Workers’ Compensation platform for more than 20 years, working side-by-side with the same seasoned MEMIC staff. MEMIC’s migration was a technology upgrade consisting of two parts: first, MEMIC needed to migrate from an older legacy application solution to a newer, more functionally robust Agency Link and the Java version of DXC’s POINT IN policy administration system; secondly, the migration also mandated Windows OS and MS SQL server upgrades, which were done in unison.
What did you learn on this project?
The MEMIC migration project helped to enhance my project and time management, communication and coordination skill sets. I was able to effectively and proficiently communicate with all levels of management across the business and technical teams, keeping the migration moving forward and on schedule.
As a manager working with many teams on this project, I had the opportunity to improve my problem-resolution skill set. This aided me in guiding our teams to a successful migration for MEMIC. I gained a lot of experience with our new technologies, which is helping me provide quality support for the new platform.
What do you like about working at DXC?
In my 33-year career, I would have to say it boils down to having had the privilege to work with talented DXC employees from all facets of our industry.
The expertise of DXC’s teams, along with the leadership providing governance to those teams, has helped drive positive results for our customers and produce a more skilled and knowledgeable team base. The support teams have brought productive performance, results-driven support and enhancements to the applications for our collective customer base. A myriad of opportunities are available to DXC employees by the company and the remote work flexibility is a very big plus.
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, experimenting with charcoal grilling, going to oyster roasts in the fall and just relaxing around the pool with all the kids. It reminds me of my childhood. I also like to do yard work - keeping the lawn and flower beds trim, and designing new features and presentations for the yard. I’m also an avid outdoorsman who likes to hunt deer and fish.
Getting out in nature allows me to slow down and provides clarity of thought to help me really understand what are truly my most important priorities. Not to mention, observing nature is absolutely fascinating and makes me appreciate what we are blessed to enjoy.
